Happy Birthday iPhone

Today is the 5th anniversary of the iPhone’s introduction to the world  - back in 2007.  In case you’ve forgotten, you might want to watch this short clip of Steve Jobs introducing the original iPhone - brings a tear to the eye huh?

A lot has changed in five years.  If you were in the mobile industry pre-iphone, you would remember trying to explain to people that you CAN access the internet from a phone.   Or creating print ads with ten page instruction manuals for how to get an application onto your WAP enabled Nokia brick. Yep, love it or hate it, the iPhone came along and changed everything for mobile usage.  In fact it changed everything about the way many of us access information on a daily basis.  52% of Australians now have a smartphone, and their use of media, information & entertainment has changed forever. In only a few years almost every Australian with a mobile phone will have a smartphone.

Of course now it no longer matters whether the device is an iPhone, Android or something else we haven’t even heard of yet.  In 2007 Apple reinvented the mobile phone and our lives changed forever.

This infographic (from VoucherCodes) is a quick snapshot of how the iPhone (and Apple’s revenue) has grown over the years.
